10th International Postgraduate Conference on Central and Eastern Europe

The Institute of European studies and the Institute of Sociology of the Jagiellonian University Krakow, Poland organizes a conference on Transformationin Central and Eastern Europe: before, after, in the process?

Topic

The collapse of the communist system resulted in the processes of transformation in Central and Eastern Europe. Since 20 years have passed the definition of transformation needs to be reconsidered in the face of new challenges. In this case the fundamental point is the multidimensional character of the changes which take place in different realms of civil life from the 1989. The conference aims to initiate trans-disciplinary dialogues, to bring together scholars of the Central and Eastern Europe to exchange ideas and findings concerning the mutual problems of the region in the face of transformation; we warmly welcome and expect papers related to the listed thematic units.

The main topic of the conference has been divided into 5 thematic units:
  • Society (civil) in the face of transformation,
  • Transformation in the context of the structural and institutional,
  • Gender transformation,
  • Culture in the face of transformation,
  • Effects of transformation on the economy.
Language: English

Participation fee:

80 PLN for the citizens of the EU, the USA, Canada, Switzerland, Norway and Island,
50  PLN for Polish citizens

no fee for the citizens of other states.

Application procedure

 All interested participants should fill in and submit

  1. application form available at www.transformation.confer.uj.edu.pl
  2. abstract of the paper ( no more than 500 words)

 The application and abstract deadline is the 7th of January 2011.

 The application form should be sent on the secretary email - conference.uj.2011@gmail.com, the abstracts should be sent to coordinators of the selected thematic unit. The contact information can be found in the document containing the units’ descriptions.

 The selected participants will be informed at the latest on the 14th of January 2011.
