ALBA Lecture in Groningen

'Imagining Sarah Baartman. (Post-)colonial Europe and the ethics of representation' by prof. dr. Rosemarie Buikema.

The vicissitudes of Sarah Baartman are not only the source of Abdellatif Kediche's film Black Venus but also inspired wellknown South African artists to perform their views on the North-South colonial legacy. In this lecture Rosemarie Buikema will elaborate on questions of scientific racism, the colonial gaze and the transitional potential of the arts.
