The vicissitudes of Sarah Baartman are not only the source of Abdellatif Kediche's film Black Venus but also inspired wellknown South African artists to perform their views on the North-South colonial legacy. In this lecture Rosemarie Buikema will elaborate on questions of scientific racism, the colonial gaze and the transitional potential of the arts.
